Whether you're planning a trip abroad, comparing prices from an international store, or checking how much a foreign salary equals in your home currency, you need a reliable currency converter. This free tool converts between 160+ world currencies using live mid-market exchange rates — updated daily and cached locally so repeat visits stay fast.
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices in global currency markets — often called the "real" or interbank rate. It's the fairest reference point for comparing conversions. Banks, card issuers and money-transfer services usually add a margin or fee on top, so the rate you actually receive may be slightly different from what this calculator shows.
Some of the most searched conversions include USD to EUR, GBP to USD, EUR to GBP, USD to JPY, USD to CAD and USD to INR. Select any pair from the dropdowns, enter an amount, and the converted value and exchange rate appear instantly. Use the swap button to reverse the direction without re-entering anything.
Before you book a hotel, buy from an overseas retailer, or set a budget for your vacation, convert prices into your home currency to know exactly what you're spending. The quick-conversions sidebar shows popular equivalents at a glance — click any row to apply that currency and copy the result.
Exchange rates are provided by ExchangeRate-API via their free open-access endpoint. Rates refresh once per day; the page displays when they were last updated and stores them in your browser until the next scheduled update. Amounts you type never leave your device — only the public rate data is fetched.
ExchangeRate-API publishes rates relative to a single base currency (USD). Each currency code has a number telling you how many units of that currency equal one US dollar. To convert between any two currencies, the tool uses cross-rates — you do not need USD in the middle manually:
converted amount = amount × (rateto ÷ ratefrom)
Example: if 1 USD = 0.92 EUR and 1 USD = 0.79 GBP, then converting €100 to GBP is 100 × (0.79 ÷ 0.92) ≈ £85.87. The ratio of the two rates cancels out the US dollar and gives the direct conversion factor.
The rate shown below the result (e.g. "1 USD = 0.9200 EUR") is that ratio for a single unit, so you can sanity-check the maths or quote the rate in conversation.
A room costs $1,240 and you want to know the euro equivalent. Suppose the rate is 1 USD = 0.918 EUR.
1,240 × 0.918 = €1,138.32
Your card issuer may charge slightly more than this mid-market figure once their spread and fees apply.
You earn £2,800 and want to compare it to US salary figures. If 1 USD = 0.787 GBP, then 1 GBP = 1 ÷ 0.787 ≈ 1.271 USD.
2,800 × (1 ÷ 0.787) = 2,800 × 1.2706 ≈ $3,557.68
Swap the currencies in the tool and the same cross-rate handles the reverse without retyping the amount.
You have a ¥120,000 daily budget in Japan and want the US dollar equivalent for planning. At 1 USD = 149.50 JPY:
120,000 ÷ 149.50 ≈ $802.68
Because yen rates are often quoted as "yen per dollar," dividing feels natural — the tool handles the direction either way.
Use it when money crosses borders — travel budgeting, comparing international prices, understanding foreign invoices, or checking whether a overseas salary offer competes with local pay. It is built for currency pairs and live rates, not for physical units (kg, miles) or loan payments.
For measurement conversions, use the Unit Converter. For percentage mark-ups or discounts on a price you have already converted, use the Percentage Calculator. For scheduling calls across time zones after you know the cost, pair this with the Time Zone Converter.
