Password Strength Checker

100% free — test how strong your password is with a live score, visual meter, requirements checklist and crack-time estimate. Runs entirely in your browser.

Your password is analysed locally and is never uploaded or stored.

Enter a password

Type a password above to see its strength score, requirements checklist and estimated crack time.

    * Crack-time assumes offline guessing at ~10 billion attempts per second. Actual risk depends on hashing, leaks and attacker resources.

    Three simple steps

How to check password strength online

      Read the score

Watch the strength meter and 0–100 score update instantly as you type.

    3. 3

      Review the checklist

See which requirements pass or fail, plus entropy and crack-time estimates.

Check how strong your password is — privately

Wondering whether your password is strong enough for your bank, email or work account? This free password strength checker gives you instant feedback: a strength score, visual meter, requirements checklist and an offline crack-time estimate — all analysed on your device, with nothing sent to a server.

    How password strength is calculated

The checker scores your password from 0 to 100 based on length, character variety (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols) and penalties for weak patterns — including common leaked passwords, keyboard walks like qwerty, repeated characters and simple numeric-only strings. It also estimates entropy in bits, which drives the crack-time calculation.

    What is a strong password?

Security experts recommend passwords of at least 12 characters that combine multiple character types and avoid predictable words or patterns. Better still, use a long passphrase of random words — length beats complexity when it comes to resisting brute-force attacks. Most importantly, use a unique password for every site; a password manager makes that practical.

Is it safe to type my real password here?

This tool runs entirely in your browser — the same way a desktop password checker would. Your input is never uploaded, stored in cookies or written to disk. You can disconnect from the internet and it still works. That said, never enter a password on any website you do not trust; if you prefer, test a similar password with the same structure instead of your exact production credential.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

How do I check if my password is strong?

Type your password into the checker. You'll instantly see a strength score, a visual meter, a requirements checklist and an estimated offline crack time.

Is my password sent to a server?

No. Every check runs locally in your browser. Your password is never uploaded, stored or logged.

    What makes a password strong?

A strong password is at least 12 characters long and combines uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols while avoiding common words and keyboard patterns.

What does the crack time estimate mean?

It estimates how long an offline attacker with fast hardware might need to guess your password based on its entropy. Treat it as a guide — real attacks vary.

Is the password strength checker free?

Yes — it's 100% free with no sign-up or limits. Analysis runs entirely on your device and your password is never transmitted.
