What is a good typing speed (WPM)?

WPM (words per minute) is the standard measure of typing speed. One "word" equals five characters, including spaces. Average adult typing speed is around 40 WPM; 60–80 WPM is considered good, and professional typists exceed 90 WPM.

This typing speed test calculates WPM using the industry-standard formula: correct characters divided by five, divided by elapsed minutes. Accuracy is tracked separately — a fast but sloppy score isn't as impressive as a clean 70 WPM.
